Circumcision

What is circumcision?

Surgical skin removal that covers the tip of the penis is known as circumcision. The treatment is typical for newborn males. It is still feasible to circumcise beyond the infant stage (a few days after the birth), although the process is more complicated. Irrespective of the age of the male, the circumcised penis heals within a few days.

Circumcision is a religious ceremony for certain households. Personal cleanliness, family custom, or preventative medical care may also dictate the practice.

How is circumcision done?

Circumcision is performed by a urologist, pediatrician, or obstetrician. Before it is performed, the doctor will go through the risks and advantages of circumcision. You will probably need to give written approval for the surgery, whether you want to have your kid circumcised or have it done on yourself.

During a circumcision surgery, the male will be given some pain reliever before the surgery. The steps of circumcision surgery are:

  • The male will be asked to lay on his back
  • The male’s arms and legs will be restrained to avoid any disturbance during the surgery.
  • The penis area will be cleaned, and he will be given anesthesia via injection or topical cream.
  • The foreskin is separated and removed from the penis head using a scalpel.
  • After removing the foreskin, the doctor will apply an ointment and wrap the penis in gauze.
  • The whole procedure of circumcision will take around 20 minutes or less. If you feel any difficulty during urination or bleeding after the surgery contact your doctor immediately.
